The Occlusal Plate
This device is designed to absorb the pressure caused by bruxism and release tension in the jaw. This helps protect teeth and joints against wear and damage. It is usually worn at night.
The Mouthguard
This device is designed from an impression of the patient’s teeth. It must be worn during the practice of a sport to protect the entire dentition. It thus reduces the risk of dental or jaw fracture but also the risk of concussion.
Preventive Devices
When is the wearing of a prevention device necessary?
There are two main reasons for recommending the use of a preventive device.
– Bruxism: This is the unconscious grinding of the teeth during sleep. There are different causes for bruxism, but this is a problem that is often related to anxiety. If you suffer from it, we recommend that you wear a device when you sleep to prevent tooth wear against bruxism.
– Sports: If you practice a sport where the risk of shock, falls or contact with other players is high, it is necessary to wear a device to protect your teeth. Hockey, football and combat sports are examples of disciplines where the use of a device is necessary to prevent accidents.
