Step 1
A small incision is made at the root level of the premolars or upper molars. We then make a small opening in the jawbone.
Step 2
Tissues within the sinus can then be gently lifted to free space.
Step 3
This space is filled with the bone graft which can come from the patient, from a donor bank or even be made of synthetic material. The graft can be covered with a synthetic membrane to protect it and then the site is closed.

Why does the sinus influence implantology?
In patients partially or totally edentulous on the upper jaw, the bone of the latter is absorbed over the years. This allows the tissues of the maxillary sinus just above the jaw to expand to the area previously occupied by the bone. Sometimes there is only a thin layer of bone separating the sinus from the mouth.
If necessary, it is strongly recommended to perform a sinus lift in order to prepare the patient’s jaw to receive one or more dental implants. This procedure clears the sinus and then performs a bone graft to restore volume to the jaw. Once the site is well healed and the bone graft is well integrated, the patient is ready to receive his implants.
